March 30, 2024, three Alumni of the Landscape Architecture master track, Ir Naeema Ali (Landscape Architect at Witteveen + Bos, Dubai), Ir Mônica Veras Morais (PhD student at TU Delft, Netherlands), Ir Amina Chouaïri (PhD student at IUAV, Italy) and myself in cooperation with Dr Amritha PK and Dr Anjana Bhagyanathan (NIT Calicut, India) concluded the four day’s workshop “Kerala Water Stories” as part of the Circular Water Stories research. We are impressed by the beautiful outcome of the workshop. The results will be documented in a booklet in the TU Delft repository or the CWS website in the coming month.
Circular Water Stories is a research project led by Dr Inge Bobbink that investigates cultural landscapes, focusing on water and the stories these entail. The research is embedded in the research portfolio of the section Landscape Architecture.
Sixty-four third-year undergraduates from the Department of Architecture and Planning NIT Calicut analysed the tidal and brackish Akalapuzha River in the Kozhikode district, Kerala, as part of their Landscape Architecture Studio.
Together, we looked at three zones along the vast river landscape of Akalapuzha by observing and collecting insightful knowledge on the water landscape elements, waterworks, and water stories. The concept behind the workshop was to test together (instructors and students) the methodology developed within Traditional Water System research (part of CWS research) in a workshop setting.
The “Kerala Water Stories” workshop was joined and shared with Ewout de Wit, Dutch Consul General, and Sandra Kalidien, Attaché for Science, Technology and Innovation of the Embassy of Netherlands.
Thanks for the warm welcome to Dr Mohammed Firoz and the Department of Architecture and Planning of the National Institute of Technology of Calicut. The workshop was made possible by the precious support of the Department of Tourism Government of Kerala.
We are looking forward to seeing what’s next!
